A bit more about me
It’s been a bit of a journey for me to finally realise my dream of becoming a massage therapist.
Growing up I had two passions, giving people massages and sport. I always envisioned myself as becoming a physiotherapist. But when I lost someone very close to me unexpectedly my world and my aspirations for my future changed drastically.
Even though I still loved my sports and excelled at it, I had lost my passion and my drive for it. My grades suffered as well, and all of a sudden my hopes of a bursary or even the possibility of going to university were non-existent.
I started working as a PA for a Property Surveyor and blocked the thoughts of becoming a physiotherapist out of my mind.
For years I survived by just working, changing jobs and hoping the next venture would be better. I spent 11 years doing jobs that brought me no fulfilment at all.
Things started changing for me in 2011 when my wife and I made the decision to immigrate from South Africa to the UK. Moving to a new country with very limited finances and without any job prospects it was probably the most daunting thing I have ever done, and quite honestly it was no easy feat. I found a job within the first month of arriving in the UK. Granted is was not glamorous, nor was it at management level as my position previously held, but it was a job. I was just so grateful to start on my career path in the UK.
In 2015 I suffered a tremendous set-back when I was made redundant from the company I was employed at and things spiralled for me again. I started job hopping and lost my direction, self-worth and confidence.
I realised I needed to make a change and things could not carry on the way it had been. After having endless sleepless nights and wondering what the universe had in store for me, I saw the advertisement for Dave Taylor Massage Training on Facebook. I signed up for more information and after reading through it, I realised that the course was designed for me, and that being a Deep Tissue Massage Therapist was exactly what I should be doing.
This realisation was so strong that I immediately booked onto the course.
The day I qualified as a Raynor Deep Tissue Massage Therapist was the proudest and happiest day of my life.
My new journey had begun, and I could not wait to get my name out there.
Where does the name Goju Massage come from?
I named it Goju Massage as I was able to join the two things that have kept me going even when I felt completely down and out. Taking the name Goju from the karate style I do and adding it to what I want to do for the rest of my life.
Goju literally means hard soft, which is the massage technique I apply. I thought it appropriate as one needs to adjust breath work with technique and either massage harder or softer depending on the requirements. My aim is also to soften hard, aching muscles and to reduce tension, discomfort and stress levels.
I am Zané Barlow, a qualified Raynor Deep Tissue Massage Therapist and I will use my skills, knowledge and natural abilities to provide the best massage treatment you have ever experienced.
My service is strictly professional and does not include any form of ‘happy endings’.
